Developed in partnership with Panama City-based Conservatorio, the property is steeped in the heritage and culture of Casco Viejo, the city’s UNESCO-designated historic district. Panama City lies at the crossroads of the Americas, and the hotel’s location at the center of the city’s old quarter — just moments from its bustling business district — makes American Trade a natural meeting place for influencers, creatives and cultures from around the world. Casco itself hums with the energy of a neighborhood in transition, offering visitors an immersive cultural experience unlike any in the Americas. American Trade Hotel team’s high standards of service, commitment to a one-of a kind luxury experience, and close-knit relationships with the local community create an ideal home base from which to explore all that Panama has to offer.
American Trade Hotel offers luxury grounded in history. Founded in 1673 after the original Pacific settlement was sacked by the pirate Henry Morgan, the walled Casco Viejo remained the center of Panamanian life for nearly 300 years. The American Trade Developing Company building was built in 1917 by Ramon Arias Feraud, greatgrandfather of one of the current owners. In the heady years following the completion of the Panama Canal, the neo-classical building made headlines as Panama’s first “skyscraper,” home to the city’s first modern apartments, and the first building to be built from reinforced concrete (a technique perfected in the construction of the Canal).
By the 1950s, the neighborhood’s wealthier residents began moving to the car- riendly suburbs, followed by a middle class exodus during the dictatorships in the 1960s and 70s, followed by decades of neglect and socioeconomic instability. By 2000, the American Trade building was abandoned and occupied by a street gang that used its commanding height to control a wide swath of the neighborhood. Despite the graffiti and vandalism, the building’s most important architectural details were still intact when Conservatorio bought it in 2007, and when exploring the building now it’s hard not to imagine the entrepreneurs, artists, foreign correspondents, musicians and bon vivants from all corners of the world who have in some way left their mark on it. The histories of Panama and American Trade Hotel are intertwined — an awareness of where the country and building have been and where they are going enriches all who come in contact with the property and includes them in that story.

Ace Hotel Seattle

Ace Hotel Seattle, the original Ace, lives an historic Belltown building — a former maritime workers’ hotel — with 28 rooms and award-winning minimalist design that mixes uncluttered comfort with a bohemian vibe.

A guest once said we have everything you need and nothing you don’t — Ace Hotel Seattle exemplifies that with simple, unfussy luxury, loft ceilings, hardwood floors, original art and a creative, competent and engaged staff of locals.
The building utilizes eco-friendly and sustainable elements like vintage and re-purposed furniture and guests share stylishly-appointed, private-upon-entry bathrooms, with the option to book a deluxe room with a private bathroom. Near downtown and within walking distance of popular destinations like the the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, and the Seattle Waterfront, Ace Seattle neighbors plenty of great restaurants and places to see live music and bands.
It’s also easy to get to the Capitol Hill neighborhood, and it’s a great place to stay when you’re seeing the Mariners at Safeco Field or the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. Cyclops Café and the Panther Room bar are downstairs, serving food and drinks until late at night. We have free Wi-Fi and our accommodations are pet-friendly. Our rates are cheap in comparison to other Seattle hotels and motels, even if you book at the last minute. In fact, they are some of the cheapest Seattle rooms you will find. It’s like knowing a little secret.

There are outdoor spa services, as well as room service, free wi-fi, a gym and large, unique event spaces for meetings, weddings and parties. The rooms incorporate earth-friendly and sustainable elements, like recycled materials, low VOC paints and vintage furniture. The design is organic and bohemian. Some rooms have a garden patio and some have a fireplace. Some have record players and vintage vinyl to play or take home for a small price. There are communal fireplaces located throughout the hotel. Our on-site restaurant, King’s Highway, serves a fresh take on classic American diner fare and world desert cuisines. On weekends there are DJs or live music at the pool. Almost every night there’s something going on at the Amigo Room bar — live music, DJs, bingo, crafting, karaoke and the occasional special event. And it’s open late. We also throw parties with live music and DJs during Coachella, Gay Pride, White Party and Dinah Shore — plus hold Ace-invented events like Summer School and Craft Beer Festival.

Ace Hotel New York

Ace Hotel New York is rooted in the city. Like New York, Ace is improvisational — a mix of styles, historical periods and objects that come together in layers. We’re inspired by the past, present and future of the city. A group of seasoned and accomplished, young and emerging local artists create inspired work in our guest rooms and common spaces. Everything has a story.

Ace Hotel reinvents the urban hotel for the people who make cities interesting. We crave experience more than hospitality clichés. We are curious about the history and geography of the buildings we inhabit, and let these guide us to someplace both fresh and familiar.
Ace is the low card and the high card. Our basic rooms are affordable but replete with cool amenities. Our suites offer all the luxury you would expect from a high-end hotel. Our sensibility is democratic and inclusive. We appeal to a broad spectrum of travelers directly, without reducing to the lowest common denominator. Ace is built around collaborations and friendships with local designers, artists and independent businesses.
Ace Hotel New York is improvisational — a mix of styles, historical periods and objects that come together in layers. The hotel’s design takes its cues from the vibrancy of street life, the honesty of materials and the potential of invention. It is about soul, latent in the historic architecture and reintroduced through forward-thinking design.
Formerly the Breslin Hotel, the historic structure that houses Ace Hotel New York has always been full of life. Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen were neighbors; “Diamond Jim” Brady (the inspiration for Marlon Brando’s Guys & Dollscharacter) was a regular; visionary filmmaker, musicologist and painter Harry Smith lived here, too.

Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles

Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles opens in the historic United Artists building in Downtown LA. Built in 1927 for the maverick film studio, the ornate, storied theatre and tower stand as monuments to a group of seminal American artists pushing out on their own, and anchors the Broadway Theater District’s modern renaissance.

United Artists co-founder Mary Pickford’s love for the ornate detail and stone spires of Spanish castles and cathedrals is manifest at the theatre. It’s a true temple of the arts. The mixture of reverent awe and irreverent independence is right up our alley — this is the kind of project we dream of. We partnered with Commune Design to breathe life back into the historic site. While the theatre’s original design was a lush interpretation of the Spanish Gothic style, the tower’s facade hid a minimalist poured concrete structure. Therein lies the basis for the concept at Ace Hotel’s newest home: the marriage between decadence and democracy — between 1920’s Hollywood glamour and modern minimalism — is informed by a finely tuned ear toward the Broadway Theatre District’s latest revival. It’s a modern renaissance we’re proud to be a part of.
Inspired by the idea of artist as independent producer, Mary Pickford — darling of the silent era — left Adolph Zuker and Paramount Pictures to realize her dream, joined by D.W. Griffith, Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks. They turned to architect C. Howard Crane to build the United Artists Theatre and adjacent tower, which first served as offices for Texaco.
The luxury and elegance of the movie palaces built in the 1920s and 30s reflect the spirit of their architects, known to gone a shade or two rogue. The United Artists Theatre offers equal parts classic style, functionality — the advent of “talkies” called for the rapid development of modern acoustics — and a surrender to the glitz and excess of Hollywood. Sweeping design features and minute, delicate details combine to define the golden age of cinema.

Ace Hotel London Shoreditch

Ace Hotel London brings 100 Shoreditch High Street into harmony with Shoreditch. Both a continuation of, and departure from, the Ace adventure heretofore, the Shoreditch building we inhabit creates a new kind of invitation for us. This project involves re-envisioning a contemporary space and reclaiming it for the community as a correspondent part of a greater whole.

In doing so, we’ve incorporated a wide range of design influences — reflective of the cosmopolitan yet historic character of the surroundings — from the clean Modernism of the Bauhaus to UK punk, to the bold graphic style of the early 20th century Vorticist movement. Our approach for the exterior and interior design focuses on using traditional old-world craftsmanship in a contemporary expression. It’s an exercise in redemption, and as such, one of our most rewarding projects to date, re-establishing 100 Shoreditch High’s place as a vital, engaged participant in a neighborhood rife with complex heritage, good ideas and inimitable culture.
Location Shoreditch is a historic neighborhood as well as a dynamic hub for leading galleries, theaters and fashion, home of the Brick Lane market and a canvas for street artists from around the world. It’s a neighborhood with a storied history of culture and industry. Originally outside of London proper, it was a district where culture, arts and outsiders banned by the city fathers could find a home and thrive, where archaeologists recently discovered the foundations of The Theatre in which Shakespeare’s first plays were performed. It has long been a place for making things. During the Industrial Revolution it was a center for brickmaking, textile and furniture manufacture. Today’s Shoreditch contains echoes of its industrial and artisanal past in the form of cottage industries and studios where craftspersons specialize in niche and handmade goods.
Primarily though, it is known today as a place where ideas are made — as a catalyst for art, design, cuisine, culture and technology — a hub in the global community of innovators, dreamers and entrepreneurs.
